Bad Hair Day Syndrome

Have you ever heard the saying “having a bad hair day”? I’m sure you have. It’s one of those days when your hair seems to have a mind of its own. It just doesn’t want to do what you want it to do. You’ve washed it, styled it and combed it, put hair spray on it, and it still “acts” in an unacceptable style. Are you wondering what this has to do with the heart? Well, sometimes I think we are like that. We just want to do our own thing.
Webster’s Dictionary defines syndrome as a group of signs and symptoms that occur together and characterize a particular abnormality. We need to remember that to act contrary to the Word of God is abnormal for a Christian.
Our outward appearance, or rather our outward conduct is the reflection of what is going on in our heart and sometimes we have a day where our “heart is out of joint”. We get frustrated over a situation and have a wrong attitude or we’ve been hurt by what someone said and we allow those feelings to rule our conduct instead of our spirit. Perhaps we just physically don’t feel well and we get impatient. It happens to all of us once in a while. Our behavior just doesn’t measure up to our heart’s desire to please and obey God. So what do we do?
Repent. 1 John 1:9 The first thing to do is to repent for being “out of character” as a Christian. Always be appreciative when God shows you that you are in need of repentance. He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Repentance is the basis for the foundation of becoming a Christian and also for staying in right fellowship with God.
Monitor your thoughts. 2 Corinthians 10:5 Cast down those thoughts and imaginations that exalt themselves against God. Think about what you are thinking about; don’t let your mind think just whatever it wants to think. Control it. You cannot out-think your thoughts; speak to your mind and tell it what it is going to think.
Renew your mind to the Word of God. Romans 12:2 We must daily read the Word to keep our mind and spirit fed properly. It is important to feed our physical bodies properly and it is important to feed our spirit properly.
Then – we will have the confidence as a Christian; that our heart is washed clean in the Blood of Jesus; combed and styled with prayer, Bible study, and church attendance and Christian fellowship; and strengthened with the Holy Spirit.

That is good advice and true way to live
