Christmas Parties: The Real Reason for the Season – Jesus
2December 17, 2014 by maryruwe
This is the week before Christmas. Have you had enough parties yet? We do tend to celebrate with dinners and gatherings this time of year. We have parties to attend from work, at church, school programs, and of course family and friends. The month of December is very busy with all these gatherings. Then still, we have all the shopping for the goodies we make and the presents we want to give. We can get so caught up in what we have to get done that if not careful we will forget to take time to think about the real Reason for the Season – Jesus.
Actually I like the idea of getting together and visiting with each other. I don’t even mind fixing the food, or even cleaning the house that goes along with getting ready! It’s all part of the season. Food and fellowship always go together. It does now and it did in Bible times too. Ever read about all the feasts in the Old Testament? There is Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Firstfruits, and many more. I’m not going into them right now; I just really wanted to point out that God approves of fellowship. So go ahead and enjoy all the parties and celebrations of the Season, just be sure to take time to —
ENJOY THE REASON FOR THE SEASON – JESUS.
Read the accounts of His birth several times and meditate of how awesome He is.
Keep your heart from strife and stress by spending time in prayer.
Decide to be a blessing with giving and not concerned so much with what you might receive.
Reading:
Birth of Jesus: Matthew 1:18 – 2:1-12, and Luke 1:26-38
It is more blessed to give than to receive: Acts 20:35

Note to self…Mary likes to party. LOL. Good job bringing it back to the foundational truth.
I have really been enjoying an advent devotional that the kids got me for my birthday earlier this year. It makes me cry just about every day. 🙂 It is really a good cry though.
Merry Christmas, Mary! 🙂
