What We Say

thThis week I want to talk about the things we say and how they affect our lives.  When I listen to people talk, and myself too, there are times I hear words or phrases that are actually contrary to the Word of God.  God wants to bless us but since He gave us the right to choose and to make decisions, if we don’t line our words up with His Word we can cancel out His good plans for us.  It isn’t just about what He wants for us, it’s about whether we are positioning ourselves by faith to receive what He wants and has for us.  This is why we need to monitor our words.

Please note that what I’m talking about is a continual habit of speaking words adversely to the Word of God not just the occasional “out of faith” sentence.  God is not the one counting all the things we say and do wrong, but we do have an accuser (the devil) who does and this is why we need to have our words lining up with the Bible.

My purpose with this post is to help open our eyes to perhaps how we are opening the door and allowing the enemy to cause chaos in our lives because of our words.  The faith-statements below are how I speak the Word over my life and hope these examples encourage you do to the same.

*****

When we say:  “I just can’t remember anything, let alone Scripture”, we are denying the power of God to change our thinking and bring all things to our remembrance.

Our faith statement should be: I have the mind of Christ; the Holy Spirit brings to my remembrance what I need to remember because I have renewed my mind to the Word of God, and I have a sound mind that functions properly (John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 2:16, Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 1:7).

*****

When we say:  “I just can’t do anything right, I’m just not smart enough to understand, or it’s just too hard”, we are denying the power of God to illuminate His Word and giving us the ability to understand whatever it is we need to know.

Our faith statement should be:  I can do all things through Christ (His anointing) and I believe that God gives me the understanding and wisdom I need for every decision I need to make (Philippians 4:13, James 1:5).

*****

When we say:  “I just am too tired to do much of anything”, we are denying the power of God to strengthen and help us.

Our faith statement should be: The joy of the Lord is my strength I will rejoice and be glad.  The Lord is my strength and my shield.  I will rejoice in the Lord always.  Joyousness is a soul strengthener!  Joy brings us into the Presence of God where we are able to receive His Power to live our lives victoriously (Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 28:7, Philippians 4:13).

*****

When we say:  “I just don’t know if I can keep going like this or even if I want to, I’m weary of all this pressure and work”, we are denying the power of God to encourage us and help us to think correctly and see our purpose in His plan.

Our faith statement should be:  I will not be dismayed or discouraged, I will put on the garment of praise that has the victory over the spiritual heaviness that is coming against me;  I will not grow weary in well doing, but will stand strong in the Lord for I believe the Lord has good plans for me (Joshua 1:9, Jeremiah 29:11,  Isaiah 61:3, Galatians 6:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:13).

*****

When we say:  “I don’t know if God can or will or has forgiven me; I’ve done so many things wrong”, we are denying God and calling Him a liar.

Our faith statement should be:  Lord I’m sorry for my wrong doing and believe the Bible is true and that You are true to Your Word, that when I confess my sins, You are faithful and just to forgive me and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness (1 John1:9, Isaiah 43:25).

*****

When we say:  “I just don’t know if God will heal me”, we are denying the healing power of God (that He has already provided) to bring forth the healing and restoration of health that our body needs.

Our faith statement should be:  I believe that God sent His Word to heal me and to deliver me from destruction.  Jesus being the Word in the flesh said that He did only what He saw the Father do, and went about healing all those oppressed by the devil; paying for my healing by the stripes on His back.  Since God is the same yesterday, today and forever, I believe He still heals today.  Therefore I speak to my body and command it to be healed in the Name of Jesus; for sickness (name the problem) and the cause of it to be gone and my body to function properly as it should (Psalm 103: 2-3, Psalm 107:20, Acts 10:38, Hebrews 13:8, Jeremiah 30:17, 1 Peter 2:24).

*****

This week let’s make it a priority to monitor our words; really listen to what we are saying because our words frame our lives.  Proverbs 18:21 tells us there is death and life in the power of the tongue, and we eat the fruit of our words (this means whether negative or positive).  Matthew 12:36 teaches us that we will give an account of every idle word we speak.  To me this means that since God is a faith God and the Bible contains His faith words, then anything spoken that is not in line with His Word could possibly be judged as idle.  Let’s be “word-watchers” and see how we might need to change our words to activate the Power of God in our lives for victorious living.  Have a great week.
