The Power Of One Decision

Do you ever wonder if one decision can make a difference? Do those insignificant, small, decisions, those everyday choices, really matter? Yes, they do! One decision can change your life – forever! Either for the better or for the worse.
One decision to make a purchase has the power to put you into debt or keep you out of debt and on a budget. One decision to exercise can lead to a healthier body. Even the decision to eat one more bite too many at the dinner table registers in your body as over-eating. Everybody knows that one word or statement can either be an encouragement or a discouragement someone.
Below are a few Bible examples of what one decision meant in the lives of those who made them, and how they interacted in the lives of others.
The one decision of disobedience of Adam and Eve changed the course of mankind. (Genesis 2:15-17, Romans 5:12)
Abraham’s decision to believe God’s promise made it possible to have a child in his old age; which was the beginning of a new nation; and his faith was credited to him as righteousness. (Genesis 21:1-3, Romans 4:3 and 18)
The one decision of the Israelites to believe the bad report of the ten spies, rather than the good report of two (Caleb and Joshua), kept them (age twenty and above) from entering the Promised Land. Only Caleb and Joshua, out of the twelve spies, were allowed to enter the Promised Land. (Numbers 13:17-33, 14:38)
David’s decision to gaze too long at Bathsheba eventually led him to commit adultery, which resulted in a pregnancy. The next one-decision he made to cover up his sin caused him to conspire a murder. (2 Samuel 11:1-21)
The one decision of Jesus to submit His will to the Father’s will made The Way for us to once again have right-standing and fellowship with Almighty God. (Matthew 26:39, Luke 22:42)
Saul’s one decision, on the road to Damascus, to recognize Jesus as Lord changed his life from being a murderer of God’s people to being God’s great messenger to God’s people. (Acts 9: 1-6)
We could go on and on with probably an endless list of how one decision changed a life. I’m sure you can come up with some of your own of how a single decision changed your life too. I know I can. In fact, though I had always said no to going on blind dates, the one time I made the decision to go on a blind date resulted in me meeting my husband. God is good.
The whole point of this post is to encourage us to look at decisions differently. As we can see from the examples in the Bible, one decision not only changed the life of the one making the decision but the lives of others too. Each decision is insignificant, and leads to another; much the same way as one step is followed by another. The same is true of our faith. One decision to believe God’s Word leads us to another and another, thereby leading us into the abundant life that Jesus promised. (John 10:10)
Have a great week.
