The Lord My Healer

The Lord, my Healer. I remember when I first learned that God wanted me healed. That was several decades ago and I’m so very thankful that He revealed that truth to me. It was such good news to me; that not only does God want me in good health but that I can believe His Word and be healed. How wonderful is that! Does that mean that God is against doctors and medicines – no it doesn’t mean that at all because God does use doctors and medicines too. God calls men and women into the medical field just as He calls men and women in the ministry.
My first encounter of believing and receiving God’s healing was the night I burnt my thumb and two fingers cleaning the hot stove right after I’d canned some green beans. It was late at night and I was tired. I was cleaning the stovetop from the spill that had overflowed and forgot to pick up the hot pad to remove the rack to clean up the mess. Immediately three blisters formed on my thumb and fingers. I opened the freezer and quickly wrapped my hand in ice which did calm down that burning sensation – as long as I held onto the ice! I’d been studying and listening to messages on God’s provision of healing and my heart was full of His Word. I heard myself praying to God and quoting His Word back to Him from Mark 11:24 that if I believed and asked Him, I could have whatever I needed. I needed healing. I spoke out the truth of First Peter 2:24: “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” I remember saying, “Lord, it’s late, I have to get some sleep so I can get up in the morning and go to work. I can’t sleep with this pain, please take the pain away and heal in my hand.” I fell asleep and slept all night! When I woke up the next morning there was no pain and the blisters were completely gone. No scars, no evidence at all that I had been burnt. Through the years God has proven Himself true to His Word, faithful to perform His Word when I believe Him. So, yes, I believe that God still heals today.
Please understand that God not only wants our body to be healed of sickness and disease He wants every part of us, our emotions and our mind to also be in good health. As I stated earlier, I’m so very grateful for God’s healing power made available to us through the stripes on Jesus back, and in the Name of Jesus which is the Name above all names. Ephesians 1:21 states that the name of Jesus is above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named. Philippians 2:9 also says that God highly exalted Him and gave Him (Jesus) the name which is above every name. Sickness and disease have names!
If Jesus, in His life on earth, spoke to the water and wind to be calm, called healing into those who were sick, and then in Matthew 28:18-19 tells us that all authority had been given to Him in heaven and on earth, and for us to go, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, then He surely intended for us to speak healing into our bodies when they get sick! Makes perfect sense to me.
The unbelief of others does not negate the faithfulness of God. (Romans 3:3) So, even if those around you do not or will not believe for healing, you can believe it for yourself and be blessed. Kenneth E. Hagin stated in his mini book “God’s Medicine”, “Faith is what makes divine healing work.
Here are a few of God’s healing Scriptures that I stand on in faith to believe for healing, and continue to speak to maintain my healing and good health: Psalm 107:20; 103:3; Matthew 9:35; Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24; Jeremiah 30:17.
It is our faith in God’s Word that pulls His healing provision into our natural bodies. Faith makes healing possible because with God all things are possible to them who believe!
