The Purpose Of Revelation Knowledge

We live in an age where knowledge is increasing everywhere every day and in every area of business. We carry smart phones which allow us to do more than just call and talk; we can get directions on how to drive to a certain destination. We can even take beautiful pictures with the camera, and surf the web. Not too many years ago we were tied to a land line phone and a desk top computer to do those things; now it’s all at our fingertips. We have surely become an instantaneous society! We think everything should be done in the instant we inquire or ask about it. That’s the world we live in but what does the Bible say about knowledge, revelation, and their purpose; this is what we are looking at today. So hang on, here we go!
The word “reveal” is pretty much self-explanatory: it means to make known, to show plainly, to open-up to view. This means that the whole reason God wants to give us revelation of His Word is so we can have knowledge of Him and know Him better. The better we know Him the more He expects us to live according to what He has revealed to us. Jesus taught by parables which show how easy it is to understand the nature of God and His principles.
As we read and study the Bible our spiritual eyes are opened to God’s character and His desire for us to be like him. The purpose of having revelation knowledge of His Word is so we can know how to walk worthy of the vocation we are called to do (Ephesians 4:1); and be fruitful in every good work as we increase in the knowledge of Him (Colossians 1:10).
For me, the first “light-bulb” experience was many years ago when I learned that God loves me and does NOT condemn me! That knowledge of God’s loving character changed my life. I learned from John 3:16-17 that God sent His Son Jesus to save us, NOT to condemn us. Let’s grab a clue, if God wanted to condemn us, He didn’t need to send Jesus to condemn us because mankind was already condemned after the Fall of Adam. God sent Jesus to give us eternal life. This is such a glorious and wonderful revelation of God’s love: that while we were yet sinners, He sent Jesus to take the penalty of our sins, so we could have His righteousness (Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21). Hallelujah!
Then I learned from the Book of Ephesians that God wants us to have understanding and insight of His Word (Ephesians 1:17-18). Some people think that God’s Word-the Bible is just full of mysteries and that we are not supposed to understand them, but that is not true. God wants to reveal Himself to us and to have a close relationship with us. We were created to bring God glory, to be holy as He is holy, and to live according to His holiness (1 Peter 1:15). The better we know Him, the more wisdom and understanding we have of His Word. That knowledge of Him produces in us a desire to live pleasing to Him.
Again I say, the purpose of the revelation knowledge of the Word of God is NOT to bring condemnation, regret, or shame, but to bring restoration in our lives for Salvation, healing, prosperity, and power to live victoriously for Him.
So get you Bible out and begin reading it daily. Pray and ask God to give you revelation knowledge of how to live victoriously according to His Word; that is your purpose – to bring glory to Him. Everything we do should glorify Him.
