What’s In Your Plan

With the school year beginning I’m remembering the years when my children were school age, and this time of year our plans all changed. Of course, the day time hours were more or less set by the beginning and ending of the school day. Even when I was home “alone” my schedule changed because the schedule of my children changed. I helped at their school in the library or lunch room, and that changed my schedule on those days. If a person begins a new job, that too changes plans, especially if their hour are flexible each week. Our lives are constantly moving from one activity to another and that means we need to be able to make adjustments each day. I have found that I adjust to the changing schedule(s) easier when I’ve spent time with my Lord at the beginning of the day.
But one thing remains, or should remain, and that is our desire to follow God’s plans for our lives. When we take time to be in the presence of the Lord each day, He will give our heart the stability it needs for each day’s changing activities. That means that no matter how busy our schedule is, if we’ve placed our heart, mind, emotions, and thoughts in the hands of God, then we will be able to adjust to the demands of the day. Every person in our home needs our attention, and with God ruling our heart, we will be able to meet the need of each one.
It’s the desire of each parent to help their young ones do well in school, sports, or other activities they enjoy. God is no different. He delights is helping His children be all we can be. Of course, no matter how important we think our desires and plans are, if they are in contrast with His, then we limit the help He can give us because He if faithful to His Word, not our changing whims.
God says in Malachi 3:6, “For I am the Lord, I change not…, and then we read in Hebrews 13:8 that Jesus is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. So, if we want constant victory in our plans and desires, we need to line them up with His. It’s that simple. I encourage you to set your daily schedule to include time to be with God; read His Book, pray, praise, and persist in your desire to live for Him. As you teach His Word to your children, they will learn and see your devotion Him, and will learn to incorporate Him into their lives too, and fulfill His plans for their lives.
Proverbs 19:21 says, many plans are in a man’s (or person’s) heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him/her that will stand.
Psalm 37:4, Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.
