Faithful Testimonies

Faithfulness is needed in every area of our lives. Employers want faithful employees to show up on time, work with diligence; and to be honest. Employees want fair treatment and payment from their employers. In a family setting, a husband and wife want honesty and faithfulness in their spouse. Parents want their children to be honest and trustworthy. Children want love and security.

Desiring faithfulness from others comes from the attributes of God – He is faithful – and commands His children to be like Him! Psalm 119:138 tells us that His testimonies, or commands, are  righteous and very faithful. Proverbs 14:5 teaches that a faithful person will not lie. Ephesians 4:15 instructs us to speak the truth in love. And James 5:16 encourages us to pray for one another. It is comforting to know that Jesus, who is now at the right hand of God, prays (intercedes) for us (Romans 8:34).

Faithfulness goes along with a good testimony. A testimony is a statement or declaration of truth based on a person’s knowledge or experience. Sometimes it is written, and sometimes its spoken, as in a court of law. How we live our lives is also a testimony. In the Bible testimonies usually refers to God’s written Word and the Law of Moses. But it can also be a personal true statement of a witness or declaration of faith. However, a false statement is a lie and can get a person in trouble – much like Ananias and his wife Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11. In their case, it cost them their lives! We need to be sure that our testimonies are truthful at all times.

We learn faithfulness when we are young and given responsibility. We also learn that our lives are a testimony of our faithfulness or the lack thereof. As we grow and are faithful, we’re given more tasks and responsibility. This goes along with the truth Jesus taught in Luke 16:10, where those who are faithful in the least are faithful in much. This is called stewardship, and everyone will all give an account of their faithfulness to God (Romans 14:12). I encourage everyone to be sure that their life-testimony concurs with their statement of faithfulness to God.
