Keeping Your Temple

Are you aware of the fact that as a Christian, you are the temple of the Holy Spirit? When a person receives Jesus as Savior, He comes to live within their spirit. His Holy Spirit resides in them. They are no longer own; they belong to Him (First Corinthians 6:19). When we become a child of God, we are no longer ownership of our lives – we are the stewards of His ownership.

The word keeping means to retain, maintain, guard and honoring something. We are to take care of the temple of God – which we (Christians) are. This means to get proper nutrition, sleep, and exercise. We need to be strong to be good stewards and managers of what God has called us to do. To do this successfully, we must always be monitoring our words and actions to line up with His Word. If we are not keeping our temple strong then we are out of balance or alignment with God’s Word, and setting ourselves up for attacks of the enemy.

The love walk and walk the faith walk are more than just believing God’s Word, it also includes discipline and obedience to His Word. Isaiah 1:19 teaches that we need to be willing and obedient to eat the good of the land. Obedience and willingness are for every area of our lives. We can’t be obedient in some areas and disobedient in others and expect the promises of God to work for us. By the same principle, we cannot just be obedient without a willing heart to be obedient, and still expect a glowing review for our stewardship.

Keeping our temple has everything to do with how we honor God; from how we serve Him and manage our time to put God first place in our lives to how we treat others. Exodus 20:3 teaches that we are to have no other gods before us (in any area of our lives). Not social media, not movies, not anything else. God wants to be first place in our heart; and He deserves first place. We must not allow the responsibilities of life to over-shadow His importance and significance in our life.

So, keep your thoughts, words, and actions in line with His Word. Keep His command to walk in love, be ready to give an answer of why you believe what you believe, and forgive others (and yourself) when mistakes are made. Above all – ALWAYS PRAISE GOD FOR HIS GOODNESS, HIS LOVE, AND HIS MERCY.
