How Little is Little Faith?  How Big is Big Faith?

Weak Faith or Strong Faith – Which do you have, which do you want?

One morning I woke up hearing these words, “how little is little faith”?   I think so much of the time we think we have to be some great faith giant to get results from our prayers.  But that just isn’t so.  The mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds but grows into the biggest tree.  So if you are thinking that your faith is too small to “do anything”, think again.  It only takes the size of a mustard seed faith to move mountains.

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus tells us that, “if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you”.  He is not talking here in regard to whether a believer has faith but whether the believer is actively using his faith. The power to grow the tree is within the seed. The power to grow our faith is within our heart; our spirit.   Romans10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God so we know that we must be hearing what God says in His Word to grow our faith.

Remember when Peter walked on the water.  Most of us probably think that it took a lot of faith for him to walk on the water.  However after reading of this account in Matthew 14:22-33, I wonder if his faith was more on the “little-size” of faith for it didn’t seem to take him long to let his eyes wonder off of Jesus.  A strong-faith heart isn’t so easily distracted.   Verse 30 says that when Peter saw that the wind was boisterous, but actually the wind had been blowing all the time!  So it had to do with where he was putting his focus, not on what the circumstances were.  Now I’m not being hard on Peter for “beginning to sink” because after all I haven’t even tried to walk on water!  I’m just saying that the lesson to learn here is to watch where we keep our attention; on the circumstances or on God.

Little faith is the result of little focus on God.  Little faith is from having our eyes on something or someone other than God Almighty.  Our faith can and will be as strong as we want it to be.  Growing our faith is all up to us.

So then you ask, what about the mountains?   We must speak to the mountains for them to be removed, just believing isn’t enough.  It could be a physical mountain of ill health where you need healing.  A financial mountain where you need your bills paid and save some money.  Perhaps a relationship mountain where there is strife and stress in the home or the work place, or with family members or friends.  Maybe there is a sin mountain in your life that keeps haunting you that you have trouble getting the victory over; such as anger, un-forgiveness, jealousy, etc.  What is the mountain you are facing that you think you don’t have enough faith to move?

Let me assure you that whatever it is, God is more than enough to meet and solve the problem.  When we submit our heart and life to HIM, He is faithful to perform and perfect that which He began in us (Philippians 1:6).  In James 1:5 we are told that He is faithful to give us wisdom for problems and circumstances when we ask Him.  He will give us the ability to walk in love toward others; give us the grace to forgive those who have hurt us.  God is always faithful.

Our “little faith” is the beginning point. It is the measure of faith that God gives to us and it has the potential to be powerful.  It’s the jumping off point to become the person that God wants and planned for us to be.  As we feed on the Word of God and keep our eyes fixed on Him, we begin to see the results of our faith coming to pass in our lives.

Not only is healing received but health is maintained.  Not only is there money to pay bills but there is an abundance to give to support the ministry of the Gospel.  Strife and stress begin to cease in the home and on the job, between family members and friendships.  The victories over the sin that use to take you off guard and easily ensnare you (Hebrews 12:1) is now under your feet by the Word, Power, and Blood of Jesus.  Victory has and is coming in every area of your life and that’s what God has planned for you, victory in Jesus.  Yes it is, indeed it is!

So feed your faith with the Word of God to grow your faith strong.  Season it with prayer, energize it with praise to God and soon you will be strong in your faith in God, speaking to your mountains and they will move.

This is an excellent word. Where you put your attention is the deciding factor as to whether you stand or fall.
