Lock Your Temple

pad-locks-md[1]Have you every thought about how many things we lock?  There are locks everywhere. We lock our cars, our homes, the work shed, our computers and even our cell phones.   It is all for security reasons; to keep out those who should not have access on their own to our belongings.  We are to monitor and secure all that belongs to us.  This not only applies to natural things but to spiritual things as well.  We read in First Corinthians 6:19 that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in us, who we have from God.   We read the same message in Second Corinthians 6:16 where it says that we are the temple of the living God.   We are to keep the doors and windows of our heart locked against the enemy; we do this with prayer, Bible study and worship of God.

John 10:10 tells us that the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy but that Jesus comes to give us life and life abundantly.  The abundant life is more than just having money and things; it’s knowing Jesus as Savior and knowing who we are in Him, and much more.  As a child of God we must learn to let the Word of God reign in our hearts and lives so we can keep the enemy out.  The Bible also tells us in 1 Peter 5:8 that “our adversary the devil roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour”.  To “roam about” means that the devil is looking for someone to destroy and devour.  We protect ourselves from this destruction by being rooted and grounded in the Word of God.  Knowing the promises of God and the Power of His Name and the authority His has given us makes it a lot harder for the enemy to kill, steal and destroy us.  We can fight a good fight of faith the same way that Jesus did; with the Word coming out of our mouths, saying “it is written…”  We are to speak in the Name of Jesus, believing that God meant what He said in His Word about giving us the authority of the Name of Jesus.

Jesus used the Scripture to combat the attacks of Satan.  He is our example. We are to use the Word of God too.  We are to speak forth His Word in the Power of His Name “calling forth those things which are not into being” (Romans 4:17).  This is why it is so very important to know the Scriptures; to continually keep the Word before our eyes and ears, to keep ourselves built up and grounded in the Word of God –  so we can fight the good fight of faith.

God never said that serving Him and living for Him would exempt us from the attacks of the enemy, but He did promise to never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).   Worshiping and praising God brings us into His Presence.  God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).   Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

Prayer is doing battle against the enemy.  James 4:7 tells us to “submit to God and resist the devil and he will flee from you.”  Speaking our prayers releases the power of God into the situation or circumstances that we are praying about.  Our prayers must line up with and agree with the Bible to give God the authority to act in and on our behalf.  So keep your Temple doors locked to the enemy by staying close to God and speaking forth His Word over your life; and keep your Temple doors open to God and His Word to learn and walk in victory and in the Blessings of His Word.

Another great post, Mary! And something we continually need reminded on as we can get lazy and forget to lock our doors. 😉
