Aim Accurately And Purposely

thThe Bible has a lot to say about the word ‘aim’. I’m not going to mention all of them, of course, but I do want to convey the importance of putting the correct aim in our conversations with others, but mostly in our prayers.

Psalm 64:3-4 says the aim of cruel words are like swords that are deadly and from ambush. This agrees with Proverbs 18:21, the tongue has the power of life and death, and we eat, or have the results of our words in our lives. So, we can see from these two Scriptures alone that we should be careful how and what we say. Luke 20:24 instructs us to put aim to our race to complete the task the Lord gives us. And First Corinthians 9:26 tells us to not run aimlessly.   In other words, we should have a definite plan to how we pray to reach and accomplish our goals and the results of our prayers.

So how does all this connect to our prayer life? It has to do with the wording of our prayers by speaking the Word of God over situations and circumstances. It has to do with praying with the heart of God for others and over circumstances. To aim our prayers accurately means to not throw the authority and power of Jesus’ Name aimlessly at the individual recipients, but to aim accurately at the devil. We are in a spiritual battle and we must use spiritual weapons in our prayers, which is the Word of God. With our prayers we are to bring down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

In order to be accurate and free from error; to be exact and precise in directing our efforts toward a specified goal and purpose, we must be able to answer the way Jesus did, “It is written…” For our intention and determination to reach God’s resolution in all situations our prayers must agree with His Word. The only way we can accomplish that is to pray The Word.

So, I say, learn the authority you have as a Christian by learning the Scriptures on who you are “In Christ”, “In Him”, “In Whom”. To combat sickness and disease, learn healing Scriptures that tell you how you have been healed by the stripes of Jesus. To come against lack and poverty, learn and obey how to sow and reap the blessings of God. To walk in love toward others with the love of God, learn Scriptures about how to be kind and loving. To be delivered from addictions (whether drugs, food, video games, etc.), learn Scriptures that teach how to live free from their bondage.

Since Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever, whatever Jesus did while on this earth physically, He is still doing today, if we can believe Him for it. (Hebrews 13:8)

So, let us be determined to pray correctly with the Word of God, aiming the power of God accurately at the evil spiritual forces behind the situations and circumstances that trouble our world; being alert to comprehend God’s answers, obeying His Word and living our lives to His glory.
