Encouragement For Today

With all that’s going on over the past few months, I think we need some encouragement to remind ourselves of the faithfulness of God. Yes, God is faithful. We may wonder at times where He is when we are going through crisis, but God is right where He has always been, and will be, on His throne of righteousness. He hasn’t moved. It may be a struggle to fight the good fight of faith when the battle seems to rage on and on, but we must never lose sight of the fact that the war in won by God and we experience His victory by our faith.
Remembering how God has brought us through tough times in the past helps to build and keep our faith during any present-day crisis. There will always be challenges and decisions to make during these times that we would rather not make – but if we keep our focus and faith on God by reading and praying His Word – those decisions will take us in the right direction of recovery and victory. During these natural times of uncertainty there is always a certainty that’s available to us and that is God’s Word. God is faithful to His Word.
Our perspective of God’s delivering power should not change because of natural circumstances we are experiencing. God is the same. He never changes. (Hebrews 13:8; Malachi 3:6)
One of my favorite Scriptures (well, I actually have several) to lean on, confess over my life, and take comfort is John 14:1 where Jesus says, “let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me”. Then again in verse 27 He says, “peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you…let not you heart be troubled neither let it be afraid”. So, what these two verses tell me is that I can have peace and don’t need to be afraid regardless of circumstances. However, the criteria for me to have the peace of God is to not let my heart be troubled. The decision is up to me whether I have peace or a troubled heart and fear. It’s up to you for your life.
Philippians 4:6-7 is another favorite of mine; be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. In other words, we don’t have to have anxiety over anything; we can have peace IF we guard our hearts and minds by prayer (and reading the Word) and believing in Christ Jesus.
First Peter 5:8 tells us that we have an enemy who wants to devour us but it also says that we don’t have to let him because we can discipline ourselves to be alert to resist him in steadfast faith (verse 9). Steadfast means to be firmly fixed in place and not subject to change, but to be firm in belief. To be disciplined is to be developed by instruction. We get that instruction from God’s Word. It all comes back full circle to reading and praying the Bible over and over and over; because faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)
I encourage you to increase your time with God, reading His Word, praying His Word, and worshiping and praising Him. He is worthy and He is faithful to His Word so speak it over your life and into all of your life’s circumstances. Let not your heart be troubled, trust God.
