Happy Thanksgiving everyone, may your day be filled is love, peace, and joy. May you have family and friends surrounding you this day of giving praise and thanks to our Lord.
Now, some may be thinking that they don’t have much to be thankful for with all the craziness of this year with the Covid19 pandemic, sickness, deaths, wearing masks, businesses shut down, loss of a job or hours cut, and in some cases some food and supply shortages. But I submit to you that there is STILL A LOT to be thankful for.
If you are able to get out of bed each morning, dress yourself, brush your own teeth, you are blessed and have something to be thankful for. If you want a job and have one, you have something to be thankful for, even if it isn’t your dream job. If you are unemployed at the moment but are searching for a job, be grateful that you are physically healthy and able to work as there are some who are not. If you can pay your bills, be thankful. If you are struggling to make ends meet financially, be thankful that there is help for you if you are willing to be humble and admit that you need help. There is never anything wrong with admitting that we need help – everyone does from time to time. This is the United States of America, there are always people ready and able to help others. This is one of the things that makes this Nation great.
But most importantly, we are one Nation under the One True God: The Creator of the whole universe! He is love and has enough love for everyone. He has blessings of good things for all of us, and He has enough for everyone. He knows us each by name and knows the plans and purpose He created each of us to complete. We must remember that “with God all things are possible”. (Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27) Jesus tells us in Mark 9:23 that, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes”. (MEV)
So, let’s focus on the fact that as Christians, we are the children of the Almighty God. Let’s increase our faith in Him by reading the Bible and making our prayers and confessions in agreement with His Word. Let’s be praying for the physical healing of those who are sick; pray for provisions for those in need of food, clothes; and bills paid. In fact, let’s go even deeper in the love of God and be the answer to some of those prayers; let’s be the laborers that are needed to bring in the harvest of souls for the Kingdom of God. Let’s be doers of the Word and not just hearers only, (James 1:22). Not only will we be blessed, but that’s one of the best “thanksgiving” gifts we can give to God; to be like Him.
In Psalm 100:1-5, we are instructed to make a joyful noise unto the Lord, serve the Lord with gladness; to come into His presences with singing; enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; for the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations. We are to be thankful to Him and bless His name. Nowhere in this chapter does it say we are to praise Him only when things are going right, and good. No, we are to praise Him at all times and continually have His praise in our mouth, according to Psalm 34:1.
Let’s make it our desire and vow to exalt the Lord our God and King every day, bless and praise His name forever and ever. (Psalm 145:1-2)
