The Background Ministry of Prayer

Everyone knows what a pulpit ministry is – its where a person ministers the Word of God in a pulpit, where everyone can see them.  But so much of the time, the person who spends time praying in the quiet time of the day or night, they are not seen by anyone, except God Almighty. They are the ones who are in the background of the Kingdom of God praying out God’s will.

I woke up 4am this morning (November 29, 2020) and it was as I thinking and praying for my sister, and others, and my Country, that I received this message about background ministry. Most prayers we pray are when we are alone with God; no one else sees them or hears them; but that doesn’t make them less powerful. These prayer times with God are what I call the Background Ministry. My sister has been dealing with memory loss and I was praying for her healing to be manifested and for her memory to be restored and to come back completely. By faith I was thanking God that according to HIS WORD she is already healed. (Psalm 107:20; John 1:14; 1 Peter 2:24) In Romans 4:17 we learn that God, who quickens the dead, calls those things which be not as though they were. We are to do the same, and that’s why we can praise God for answers to our prayers before we see the evidence of them.

The dictionary defines a background as: the scenery behind something; the setting within which something takes place; the sum of a person’s experience, training, and understanding.

Think of a stage of any performance: there is a background scenery and a setting that helps to give us the experience, training, and understanding of what is going on.

That’s what I think of when I think of prayer warriors; their prayers are the “scenery” that bring forth the Word of God into our world; the prayers spoken are the “setting” that God uses to bring His will and plans upon this earth. It is within the “setting of prayer times” that we are trained for spiritual warfare in how to pray the Word of God.  It’s also in these prayer times (settings) that we experience the power of God; and receive instruction (training) in the understanding of how to pray God’s Word over every situation.

According to James 5:16, it is the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man that avails much. Effectual, meaning that the prayer gets the job done God’s way; our prayers are effective. Fervent is the passion and intensity which with we pray. Passion comes from having the heart of God to see people healed, saved, and set free. The intensity is the strength or power of our faith spoken out in our prayers. Avail is the putting to use of God’s power and is also an indication of His benefits that comes through our prayers.

We must never quit praying for our families, friends, and indeed for our Country. Colossians 4:2 instructs us to continue in prayer and watch in the same with thanksgiving; meaning that we should never forget to be thankful – while we are praying.

God is moving all the pieces in place to bring forth His miracles in these last days. He is exposing the evil and corruption that must be judged and brought to justice; and, He is exposing the good, honest, and righteous that must be rewarded.

Proverbs 21:15 says it this way, “it is a joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity”.

Psalm 89:14 states it this way, justice and judgment are the habitation thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

God is moving on our behalf to bring His Will and Plans to fruition.

Prayer is not the only background ministry; there are those who clean the inside of the church building and those who work outside keeping the premise mowed and trimmed; and those who teach the children in the Sunday School classes. I’m not saying those who work in these areas don’t pray; I’m saying that so many of us don’t know their names, but God does. They are the ones who free the preacher to spend time in the Word so he or she can minister the Word of God in the pulpit.  Acts 6:1-4 is an example of how the body of Christ working together in what seems the unseen places freed the early pastors to study the Word.

We must remember that according to Matthew 6:18 that God rewards our prayers, even those done in secret, or shall we say behind the “scenes”.  So, don’t be discouraged, keep praying for the Light of the Gospel to come forth; for revival, and for the Power of the Holy Spirit to minister healing, Salvation, and deliverance to individuals and for our Country.  We must speak forth the justice and righteousness we want in order to bring them to pass.
