We use words to communicate with each other.  Words give us direction and encouragement. Words identify us, and tells others all about us, who we are and what we stand for, whether we are wise or foolish, and who we belong to. Words can be destruction or construction; they either produce life or death in our very being. Words have the power to heal us or make us sick; to make or break friendships. I know I’ve said this before, and you’ve probably heard it from others as well, but we need to re-hear-it. We need to refresh our mind to the truth about the fact that our words are the foundation for our future.

This means is that what we say affects our lives and those around us, either for good or for bad.  We need to learn to make words work for us, not against us.  Since words contain power, let’s use our words correctly to gain the good that they can produce in our lives.  God is good so it is only by speaking His Word that can produce good in our lives. He has set forth His promises for the “good life” for those who believe, obey, and speak His commands.

Are we foolish with our words? Proverbs 18:7 tells us that if we are foolish with our mouth, it brings a snare to our soul and brings destruction.  Our soul is our mental and emotional compacity to have understanding, joy, and peace of mind.  If we are speaking foolishly, then our words are more like the world’s way of talking than God’s way of talking.

Proverbs 13:3 teaches, “He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.” Are you listening to what you say? Monitoring our words keeps us aware of who’s authority we are putting our life under. Someone is always listening to our words; God hears our words and the devil hears them too. The devil listens for words of unbelief and fear to give him authority in our lives. God listens for believing faith to give Him authority in our lives.

Our words can be wholesome or perverse (Proverbs 15:4).  Words that are perverse are words that are contrary to the Word of God.  Wholesome words, of course then, are in agreement with God’s Word.  Perverse words have the potential to bring sickness and disease to us, while wholesome words have the potential to bring healing, health, and well-being to us. Believing and speaking in agreement with God’s Word has the power to bring safety, protection, increased prosperity, and the favor of men and God in our lives.

We must know God’s Word to know what God says so we can know how to speak words of agreement with Him.  If you are not sure how to do this, begin by studying the Bible.  The more we read it, the easier it is to believe it and the easier it is to speak it with believing faith. We cannot just quote words from the Bible and expect the truth in them to be a reality in our live if we are in doubt or unbelief. We must believe the Word of the Bible.  Believing the Bible is foundational to having faith in the Bible, to having faith in God. Speaking words of the Bible with faith is foundational to receiving the promises of God in our lives.

Let us pay attention to our words so we are speaking God’s Word. Speaking His promises over our lives brings the blessings of God into our lives.  Faith is expressed by our words.  Faith is released through our words.  Remember that what you say today sets in motion the future you will have tomorrow and for years to come; so, speak wisely. Speak words of faith in God.

Proverbs 18:21   “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat its fruit”.
