God’s Good Work

OIPA simple phrase or verse in the Bible can easily change our thinking or refresh our mind as the Holy Spirit moves in our heart. Today’s particular phrase is in Philippians 1:6: “being confident that the good work God has begun in us He will perform (or perfect) in us until the day of Jesus Christ.” This sounds like a process that continues throughout our life of living for Him. God is always working to perform His goodness in our hearts. Think about this: God is performing His good work in us!  Have you ever thought about what those good works are?

Well, I took a few minutes to think about God’s good works and almost immediately my thoughts jumped to the fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23; love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. I’m very sure that these are some areas in which He does His work in us; changing us into His image. I’m also very sure that the work He does in us is a little at a time, changing us from glory to glory, as we learn to live according to His Word in every area of our lives.

Situations arise every day where we have the opportunity to exhibit His good work in us. We have situations where we need patience, gentleness, temperance, and assuredly the need to walk in faith. Everyone needs to re-evaluate just how much we are walking in or living out His image in our everyday life.  Every day we need to allow time to spend before His face and receive instructions and or corrections of how we should make some changes. It is in His presence that we also receive wisdom for decisions so we are bringing glory to God in all that we do.

So, sit quietly before Him and listen for His voice; for instruction, direction, confirmation, correction, and let Him minister to you the answers He has for all your questions. I encourage you to pray, as I found myself praying, “Lord, perform your good work in me.”
