Palm Sunday Celebration

Happy Holy Week to everyone!  Yesterday, we celebrated Palm Sunday; the beginning of Holy Week; the Sunday before Jesus died on the Cross; and the Sunday before Easter Sunday, the day God raised Him from the dead. Palm Sunday was the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey; which again signifies the that the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28) He served in healing the sick and feeding the hungry, casting out demons, and gave His life on the Cross to redeem mankind.

The significance of riding on a donkey instead of a horse is that a donkey was an animal of servitude and of peace, in contrast a horse mostly resembles strength and conquering victory. Jesus came not to forcibly conquer but to mercifully save. The clothing and palm leaves place on the ground before the donkey was the way people of that day recognized the kingship of the person.

When I think of Palm Sunday, I think about the Presence of God in my life which give me peace; the Anointing of His power He gives me in Jesus to live in victory; the Love of God that He deposits in my heart which enables me to love others; and the Mercy of God that not only sets me free but also gives me strength to offer mercy to others.  God is good!

God presence is always with us because He never leaves nor forsakes us. (Hebrews 13:5) God’s anointing comes to us because Jesus gives us power. (Luke 10:19) God’s love is deposited in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which gives us hope. (Romans 5:5) God’s mercy is found in Jesus Christ our Savior as we come unto the throne of the grace of God. (Hebrews 4:16)

I pray that you will spend time this week meditating on the goodness of God in sending His Son and giving Him thanks for delivering you from the power of darkness and translated you into the kingdom of His Son. (Colossians 1:12-14)
