Your Focus

FOCUS ON GOD!  God has a plan for each of us. For us to complete that plan, we must stay focused on what He says to do. We must stay the course; which means to stay on the path that He has us on and that takes faith. We cannot allow ourselves to become distracted by what is going on around us that might pull us away from our faith in God. We cannot allow ourselves to be distracted by doing other “good” things and neglect the calling He has placed within us.

We must not allow ourselves to become weary in well doing as it says in Galatians 6:9. We must be aware of thoughts that have the potential of taking us down the path of doubting the Word of God. We must stay focused on the Word every day to remain strong in our faith. As I was thinking about how to be and maintain our focus, I am reminded of such instructions from the Bible.

Focus on God means to: follow God, obey God, confess God’s Word, understand God’s Word, and to submit to God’s Word.

F – Follow God: We can only follow God by following His Word. Jesus said, “Come, follow me” in Matthew 19:21. When we follow Jesus, we will live a life of prayer, and a life of being a blessing to others, of having right thoughts and motives, etc. Following God means we are obedient to His Word.

O – Obey God: It is not enough to just be obedient to God; we must have a willing heart or attitude along with that obedience. Isaiah 1:19 says, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” So, if we want the full blessings of obedience, then we also need the willingness of heart too; otherwise we disconnect ourselves from the blessings of obedience.

C – Confess the Word: Romans 10:9 tells us to “confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus Christ that we believe in our heart…” That’s the scripture used when leading someone in prayer for Salvation.  Philippians 2:16 also says that we are to hold fast the word of life – which is the Word of God. Hebrews 10:23 instructs us to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” When we speak the Word of God over our bodies for healing, over our finances for provision, over our relationships for unity and harmony, we are doing exactly what Romans 4:17 tells us to do – “call those things which do not exist as thou they do.” Speaking the Word of God with our believing heart brings the spiritual reality into this earthly reality that we live in.

U – Understand the Word: The only way we can gain understanding of the Word of God is by studying. According to Second Timothy 2:15, when we study the Word, we receive the revelation, power, and wisdom to rightly divide the Word of Truth. (Ephesians 1:17) Hallelujah! Acquiring the knowledge of God helps us to live according to His Word and with faith which pleases Him (Hebrews 11:16).

S – Submit to The Word: When we submit to the righteousness of God, He establishes us in His righteousness (Romans 10:3). When we submit to God, we are blessed in all our coming and going (Deuteronomy 28:1-13). When we submit to God, then we able to resist the devil. (James 4:7)

When we place our attention on God and seek His righteousness, we learn that we can trust Him. This brings us closer in fellowship with our Lord, and that close relationship with Him brings His power into our spirit and mind to live in obedience to His Word and bring Him glory. May you continually be mindful of keeping your focus on following the Word of God.
