As I was reading one morning and thinking about this new year the word ‘advance’ came to mind. The word advance means to move forward with a purpose. It means to make progress in the direction of reaching a goal.

Goals, or visions have their roots is a dream of achieving something in the future. The timeline for reaching a goal is determined by how intense the learning curve is to achieve that goal. Learning to play a musical instrument, or to speak a new language is probably going to take more time and discipline than learning to bake a cake! Just saying.

Some goals – especially at the beginning of a new year may also include decisions to finish a goal from the previous year not yet attained. Nothing wrong with that – just keep making progress to reach that specific goal. And, it’s okay to have more than one goal at a time. In fact, I think that’s a good idea to keep ourselves moving forward with different interests.

At any rate, we need to write down our goals because that sets our priorities for discipline to reach them.

We are instructed in Habakkuk 2:2 to “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run who reads it.” (NKJV)

Writing down our goals helps to keep our goal or vision in front of us so we don’t get distracted and forget what we want to do, and more importantly, what God wants us to do. The next step is to write down the steps needed to reach that goal. I know, a lot of writing. But if you are determined to run the race to the finish line of completion, you need to write it down, and keep it before you so you will work at completing the goal!

I pray that this year is the best year you have for completing projects, reaching goals, and bringing glory to God in all that you do.
