The Least And The Much

The spectrum of ‘least’ and ‘much’ are in all our lives. I believe it has to do with what and how we spend our time.
Luke 16:10 “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.” This goes along with 2 Corinthians 9:6 that teaches that “he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
Both are talking about stewardship. Both have to do with the condition of our heart towards God. When we are faithful, we reap bountifully, when unjust we reap sparingly. It applies to every area of our lives. It all has to do with sowing and reaping. When a person is faithful – they are just; when unfaithful – they are unjust. When a person sows sparingly or bountifully – they reap accordingly. It’s that simple.
Think of it this way – spiritually:
When a person spends the least amount of their time reading, studying, and learning Scripture, they will reap sparingly because their faith will not be strong enough to believe for the blessings of God.
Think of it this way – in everyday application:
A thief begins by stealing something very small before they move on to bigger items.
A person tells one small lie to make an excuse for their words or actions before they begin telling lies about everything.
A person begins missing church attendance one or two weeks before they “fall” into the consistent pattern of not attending at all.
A person misses a day or two of reading their Bible and prayer time before consistently forgetting about spending time with the Lord.
A person will comment that they just don’t have the time get things done at home but spend much of that at-home-time in front of the television set each night, or games on their cellphone or tablet.
A person states they just can’t lose weight when all the while they are not aware of all foods they consume – or the improper nutritional meals they eat.
A person who show little or no respect for their family or neighbors will also have no respect for their employer or employee, or those in authority – government leaders or law enforcement. This does not mean we have to agree with each other on every aspect of life but it does mean to respect their God given right to think and believe what they choose.
If a person does not respect the Word of God, then their relationship with the Lord, and their faith will be distorted.
More people know more about world events than they do about the truths in the Word of God. They can name the makes of cars or name of sport teams but not know the books or authors of the Bible.
A person may have worldly knowledge and nothing wrong with that, but it is only the divine knowledge of God’s Word that gives a person the ability to discern between lies and truth.
Friends, we must pay attention to our choices. Each day we must make decisions to live with integrity – from what we consider the least of things to what we consider the much or more important things. Romans 14:12 teaches that we will give account of ourselves to God; this included in the least of things and in the much of things. It’s that simple.
