Discipline Is Not A Dirty Word

th Life is all about change. Life is all about growing up and discovering what our gifts and talents are and achieving goals. In order to do all this we must be disciplined. No one reaches their goals in life without discipline; whether it is in the career we’ve chosen or getting chores done at home; it all takes discipline. Unfortunately many of us think of the word “discipline” as a dirty word because it involves planning, work and change.   Let’s admit it most of us do not like change.  However we probably would also agree that change is what life is all about.  We wouldn’t grow if we didn’t change.  It’s our responsibility to do our best to live our life according to the Word of God.  God does not make us live for Him but He does help us.

Probably all of us have had trouble with the lack of discipline at some point in our life. The goal is to overcome this weakness by first acknowledging that we have a problem and then set out to correct it.  We can’t change something that we are not willing to confront.  Ignoring a problem does not make it go away.  In fact it usually makes it worse.  The only solution is to apply correction and the best correction is the WORD of God.  Remember discipline isn’t meant to discourage us but to help us accomplish goals.

D I S C I P L I N E

DDare to believe what God says about you and that He has good plans for you. Dare to believe that you can achieve goals with His help.

I – Invest your time and energy to learn, train and prepare yourself for what is needed to reach your goals.

S – Spend time with God, seeking His will for your life.  Search your heart to keep it aligned with His Word.

C – Commit your way to the Lord. Make decisions that keep you in close fellowship with your Heavenly Father and Jesus your Savior.

I – Increase your knowledge of God through the Bible and renew your mind to His Will for you.

P – Purpose in your heart to obey the leading of the Lord, even when you don’t quite understand where that obedience is taking you. Even if you can’t see where it fits into the plan, for God doesn’t usually show us the whole picture (plan) at once.

L – Live a life of expectancy; expect God to bring to pass the plans and purposes He has for you.

I – Imitate Christ, chose to walk in love and to be a blessing to others.

N – Never allow doubt to rule your heart. It is God’s Peace that should reign in our heart.

E – Every day make a new commitment to listen for God’s voice speaking to you. Obey His voice and complete the race, course, and plan He has for you.

Let’s be creative in our thinking, actions, words, and goals. Let’s allow God to live in us and through us to be all His wants and plans for us to be.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the thoughts (plans) that I think toward you; says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Joshua 24:15 – Choose this day whom you will serve.

Proverbs 3:6 – In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

Psalms 37:5 – Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Colossians 11:10 – That you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Matthew 6:33 – Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things will be added to you.
