God’s Eternal Sense

thGod’s thinking is eternal and always true.  God is a Spirit and therefore His knowledge is based on spiritual truths. He cannot lie. (Titus 1:2)

When I was growing up, I remember listening the grown-up talking about “giving their two-cents worth”.  Maybe you’ve heard that saying too. If not, then let me explain.  It refers to a person giving their opinion about the topic in discussion; most often when they didn’t know much about the topic, or didn’t have all the truth about the subject, but they give an opinion based on what they think; thus, giving their two cents worth, and two cents isn’t worth much!

You and I both know that there are times we realize that what we think is not actually right or true.  We might have formed our idea about the subject as a child when listening to the adults, thinking of course that they are right.  That’s a normal process in growing up.  However, there comes a time in our lives we must learn to think for ourselves; learning truth and decide to live accordingly.  Jesus said He was (is), “the way, the truth, and the life”.   (John 14:6)

Let’s understand that an opinion is less strong than positive knowledge.  God is all knowing so His Word is positive knowledge.  Any thinking contrary to the Bible has less strength, is usually negative, and most of the time just down right wrong.

As I look at this, I think of three types of senses; common sense, intellectual sense, and eternal sense.

We are born with common sense; it’s common sense to not step out in front of a moving vehicle, or place your hand into a fire. Our five physical senses fall into this category.

Intellectual sense comes from studying and is based on information; which again can either be negative or positive, true or not true.  We are always learning something in this category on a somewhat daily basis, especially with our electronic devices; we just may not realize it.

Eternal sense is what is revealed to us by the Spirit of God.  Now, of course, we can, and should, study the Bible to gain knowledge of our God and His principle truths,

but it is the revelation of those truths that gives us eternal sense in our heart, and shows us how to live by His principles.  Common sense and intellectual sense could change over time; but God’s eternal sense never changes; it is everlasting, perpetual and forever.  He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 3:8)

My challenge to all of us this week is to begin to monitor our thoughts and bring them into obedience to the Word of God. Let’s make it a priority in every situation in our lives to not give our two sense, but speak God’s Eternal sense, the Bible.  We understand that what we think is what we eventually will say and believe.  We need to make sure our thinking is correct and the only way to do that is to think the way God thinks.  (Isaiah 55:9, Philippians 4:8-9)
