Celebrating Fathers

downloadHappy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there.  God has given you a wonderful assignment of teaching, training, and influencing your family for Him. I encourage you to make sure you take time each day to spend time with the ultimate-wonderful-gracious-forgiving-loving-wise-father of all time: God our Father.  Learn of His character, integrity, and love, and then pass it on to the next generations.

I personally think that our society downplays the importance of a father in the home, whereas God gives great importance to the role of a father in the family; even in a nation.

Fathers have an enormous potential to influence in their families for loving and serving God.  Fathers don’t have to be perfect to have a good influence, you just need to be honest, caring, loving, and most of all a godly man. A godly man will raise his children in the admonition of the Lord; teaching and leading in how to live for God. (Ephesians 6:4)

Lead by example:

Don’t be afraid of disciplining your children when needed. Proverbs 3:12 gives us the instruction and insight of the heart of our heavenly Father when it states that “whom the Lord loves He corrects”.  Just remember correction doesn’t have to be harsh; just done correctly and with love.

Be a man of prayer.  Let your children and your wife see and hear you pray; not only for them but also for your neighbors, co-workers, political condition of your state and country. Teach your children to pray the Word of God over their own lives.  It is the fervent prayers of the righteous that that avails much. (James 5:16)

Worship and serve God. When your children see you truly worshiping God, they learn how to appreciate the God who wants to bless them too.  Be happy to go to the house of the Lord. (Psalm 122:1) Exalting the Lord God and worshiping Him with all your heart helps to lead your family into a solid relationship with Father God.  Introduce them to Jesus and all He has done for them.  Be the leader of your family that God has called you to be. Read the Father’s manual – the Bible – to find out how to be a good, godly father.

I thank all the fathers who are doing their best to be the best they can be with God’s help; they have an eternal effect in the lives of those around them.  Thank You for being who God has called you to be.
