OUR SONGS OF JOY ARE IN RESPONSE TO GOD’S FAITHFULNESS    

When I read Psalm 90:14 this morning, it just brought a smile to my heart because of the promise God has given us. The New International Version says, Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

The Common English Bible puts it this way, “Fill us full every morning with your faithful love so we can rejoice and celebrate our whole life long.

Both versions carry two thoughts – God’s unfailing love and our songs of joy. The two together bring us gladness all our days. It is that simple.

The word satisfy means “to meet the requirements of” or to “answer in full” – God faithfully meets and answers the requirements He places on Himself through His Word the Bible. His Word is true and He is faithful to His Word.

When we seek Him in the morning and receive a fresh touch from Him, it should make us want to sing for joy. It should make us want to live to bring glory to Him. We can sing because, or in response, that we are full of joy; and we can also sing to bring joy into our emotions and thinking when going through a rough time. This singing is to acknowledge God’s love, goodness, and unfailing faithfulness. This singing is not to be filled with gloom, despair, or agony over difficult situations. We are to sing because we know and believe that God is faithful and trustworthy, and He gives us the victory.

When we read, believe, and learn of God’s ways, we begin to understand how much He loves us and that His love is unfailing and unending. This knowledge gives us confidence and brings such joy to our hearts that we sing! The verse says “that we may sing for joy” and that means we can sing praises unto our God and Jesus our Savior regardless of the circumstances that surround us. No matter what is going on in our lives, we should be able to find something to be grateful for. We may not like the situation or circumstances but we can always remember that God is faithful to His Word and will bring us through victoriously.

Believing and trusting God to be faithful to His Word causes us to sing for joy and brings gladness all our days.
