Forge A Path

The phrase “forge a path” just kept going over and over in my head one day and it literally means to beat out repeatedly, as with a hammer to make or shape something a certain way. The Bible symbolizes this as a place of intense refining, testing, or shaping of character in a believer’s life.
We must understand that just because we face challenges and trials does not mean God is absent, it means we have an opportunity for developing a deeper faith and resilience. Though God is not necessarily the author of problems, He does use those difficulties to burn away impurities in our lives – such as complacency, pride, comfort zones, bitterness, unforgiveness, jealousy, and sin, etc. God teaches us discipline with His Commands to shape and build our character.
A path is a walkway formed by repeated footsteps designed for a specific purpose. It’s by repetition that we learn to do things with ease. Learning anything new seems difficult in the beginning but as a person persists in training, they become masters of the new ability – such as playing a sport, a musical instrument, a new language, or new software on our computer, etc. When trying to break a bad habit, we must replace it with a good habit. It takes time to retrain us to the new – it’s not impossible – but it does take discipline and determination.
To forge a path means to advance in a certain way or route. For believers, it means to advance in their knowledge of God to be able to live by faith and be an example for others to follow. Psalm 119:105 tells us that God’s Word is a lamp and light to our path – showing us how we should live. Every path leads in a specific direction. When we follow (obey) the Word of God, it leads us in the direction, plan, or purpose He has for us. If we want to live a godly life, we need to know and learn what the Bible says about how we should live and about who we are in Christ (Ephesians 1:11, 13; 2:10). It’s that simple.
Foraging naturally refers to gathering plants, crops, or other provisions. However, Biblically speaking, we can use the analogy to refer to gathering knowledge of the God’s Word so we can live the according to His Word. As a believer, we are to grow in our faith to be more like Jesus, and to do so, we must know what the Bible teaches.
My encouragement for you this week is that you will forge/gather the truths in the Bible to help you live and fulfill the plan(s) God has for you.
