Having the Peace of God

downloadGod wants us to have His peace in our hearts regardless of what is going on in the world.  God’s peace is different from the world’s kind of peace; for His peace is not dependent upon circumstances, His peace is dependent upon His faithfulness to His Word.

John 14:27 also says that we are not to let our hearts be troubled or afraid.  The Amplified Bible also adds, “stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled”. We can see that our Father God clearly wants us to have peace in our hearts. First Corinthians 14:33 tells us that God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.

Sickness and disease cause confusion because they bring destruction to our healthy bodies and disrupt the normalcy of our lives.  They not only steal our health but also our finances, which in turn begets stress in the family, causing our emotions and thinking to grow weary and weak.

Peace on the other hand, brings strength, giving us the full and good abundance of God’s blessings.  Peace with God is a close relationship with Him that results from a “knowing” that He is with us, and will never leave or forsake us. (Hebrews 13:6) His peace helps our bodies to be and stay healthy, which relieves anxiety over our finances, and also relieves emotional and mental stress.

The dictionary describes peace as freedom from disturbing thoughts or emotions; it’s a state of concord (agreement, harmony) (as between persons or governments) to end hostilities. Let’s face it; sickness and disease are hostile to our bodily health and well-being.  To continue in that same line of thinking, then peace is an internal calmness in our thoughts, emotions and mind.

As I have said before, I am saying again: fear is a choice, worry is a choice, faith is a choice, trusting God is a choice. When we chose to trust, believe, and have faith in God’s promise to give us His peace, when we keep our mind on His Word, (Isaiah 26:3), we are essentially saying what Joshua said in Joshua 24:15, “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord”. Trusting God and having faith in His Word and choosing to obey His Word is serving the Lord.  When we are at peace with God, we are also at rest.

Psalm 4:8 says, I will both lie down in peace, and sleep: for You alone O Lord, make me dwell in safety.  (KJV) The Contemporary English Version says it this way, “I can lie down and sleep soundly because you, Lord, will keep me safe.”

My prayer for you is from Numbers 6: 24-26: may the Lord bless you, and keep you, and make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.
